Arijit Singh and Aayat.

Aayat is a soundtrack of the album of the movie Bajirao Mastani.
The album was released in the year 2015, receiving instant love and critical acclaim. It was one of the best albums that year.
This song, specifically, gained huge critical acclaim for the musical quality and the lyrical brilliance.
It is a beautiful blend of two languages, Hindi and Urdu. And three genres of music, Indian classical, Ghazal and Qawwali.

This song is a collaborative effort of Singer Arijit Singh, Qawwali vocalists Mujtaba Aziz Naza, Shadab Faridi, Altamash Faridi and Farhan Sabri, Director and Composer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Lyricist A.M Turaz and Nasir Faraaz for the Qawwali lyrics.

Arijit Singh’s contribution to this song is crucial.
The song was designed in a way, where the voice becomes the focal point, since the rest of the orchestration is minimal.
Every nuance, every minutiae silence, every breath of the vocalist becomes extremely important as it elevates the over all emotion of the song.

Arijit Singh’s sheer brilliance shines brightly in this beautiful piece.
Rendering a composition like this requires great vocal control and dexterity and he pulled it off with such ease.
One wouldn’t realise how tough it is to sing a song like this until they try singing it themselves. Because Arijit made it sound so easy. Such is his skill!

However, the best of this song is the version that was actually used in the movie.
Where it was ONLY Arijit’s voice and absolutely no background music of any sort.
It was not the entire song. Just a small part of it. But the impact that it created and how his voice anchored the entire scene, is just brilliant. His vocal quality shines brighter in this version.

The Lament is that this version is not found in the audio format.
One must watch that particular scene to hear that version.
