Music that Transcends all barriers.

 

Kun Faya Kun, is a song from the movie Rockstar, an Imtiaz ali’s movie, music composed by A.R.Rahman and lyrics by Irshad Kamil. 

The phrase is from the Quran that translates to “Be and It is.”

This is one of those extremely rare pieces, that unites the world, beyond the wordly barriers of religion and makes us one with that formless God. 

Listening to this song is one of the most spiritually immersive experiences. 

Musically, this is one of the most honest pieces in the last decade and a half. 

The opening verse is accompanied by the proper sufi traditional music. And then there is a change over for the next stanza where the guitar is introduced along with a beautiful chant. (Rangreza Rang Mera Tann Mera Mann,

Le Le Rangaayi Chaahe Tann Chaahe Mann). 

Few phrases from the Quran have been used in this in a manner of chanting, which created a very divine feel to the song. 

This song comes at a very crucial stage in the story. Where the protagonist is thrown out of the house by his own siblings for an unjust reason and he takes refuge in a masjid, where he then explores sufi music with the worshippers/musicians in the mosque and through the music, reaches a stage where, at one point, he truly becomes one with God. The story takes a major turn after this. 

This song is an outcome of perfect music, lyrics and very strong visuals. And every single section being extremely honest and in a way, very connected with the ultimate creator. 

This song is one of the strongest proofs that music truly transcends all the worldly barriers and is capable of creating peace and unity. 

Music can give us hope in the darkest times. Music can truly take us very close to our creator.
